Baptism at Cornerstone
We are so excited that you are considering taking the next step in your walk with Jesus through baptism! Baptism is a beautiful and public declaration of your faith in Jesus Christ. It is a powerful moment that reflects your personal decision to follow Him as Lord and Savior.
At Cornerstone Church, we believe we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone—by believing that He died on the cross for our sins and rose again on the third day. Baptism does not save us, but it is an act of obedience and identification with Jesus. When we are baptized, we are publicly proclaiming that we are dying to our old way of life and choosing to follow Jesus in every area of our lives (Luke 9:23-25; Romans 6:3-4). This webpage is intended to help you prepare for your baptism and affirm your understanding of what it means to follow Christ.
What We Ask Before Baptism:
Before we schedule your baptism, please confirm the following:
1. I have personally accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. John 3:16-18, Romans 10:9
2. I believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word and the final authority for truth and life.
3. I understand that following Jesus means surrendering every area of my life to Him—including my identity, desires, relationships, and future.
4. I affirm that my testimony reflects salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and not an identity or lifestyle outside of God’s design as taught in Scripture.
What to Bring on Baptism Sunday
A change of clothes (you’ll change back into them after your baptism). A plastic bag for your wet clothes. A towel (we will also have extras available).
What to Wear
Please wear modest clothing that doesn’t absorb excessive water: Lightweight shorts or pants. A dark-colored t-shirt or modest top. Avoid sweatpants or thick clothing that will become heavy when wet.
What to Expect
After the third worship song during our service, we will begin the baptisms. Before being baptized, you will have the opportunity to briefly share your story of how you came to trust in Jesus. This doesn’t need to be long—1 to 3 minutes is perfect. If you’re nervous about speaking, you’re welcome to write your testimony and I can read it for you.
This is your chance to glorify God by sharing how His grace and truth have changed your life.
Here are a few helpful verses you might use to support your story:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NLT
For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 (NLT)
But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 NLT
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith– and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. Romans 6:1-4 (NIV)
At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:3-7 (NIV)
Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. 25 What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? 26 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. Luke 9:23-26 (NIV)
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:5-7 (NIV)
