Dear Cornerstone Family,
Have you ever been part of a team that experienced more losses than wins, but what mattered most was battling together as a team? Years ago, I used to play softball as much as possible. I played for several teams, but there was ONE that I considered my team. We had our wins and losses each season, but no matter what happened, we continued to battle together. There were many times people played hurt and played beyond their natural talent. We believed we were better together than apart. We were partners in something greater than any one of us. We were a team.
I see the church as a team where we are battling together for one purpose –so that people will find and follow Jesus. The church is God’s family and everyone needs to find their home team. Following Jesus isn’t always easy or comfortable, but He is our greater purpose than any one of us. The Gospel unites as partners. In Philippians 1:3-6 (NIV) we read, “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Although Paul lost his freedom and was in jail, people became his partners to continue to bring the message of Jesus to the Roman world. Paul and other believers understood the cost of partnership in the gospel would be their time, preferences and their finances. In Philippians 1:7 (NIV) Paul said, “It is right for me to feel this way about all of you since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God’s grace with me.” We are in this together!
