The Call To Protect (Devotional 12-13-17)

Dear Cornerstone Family,

It’s Christmastime and you can hear Christmas songs being played at almost every store. You will hear songs about Mary, the shepherds, wise men, and Jesus, but there is only a few songs that barely mention Joseph’s name. Many of us may overlook the key role that Joseph was called to in the story of salvation.

In Matthew 1:19, Joseph is called a righteous man. What does it mean to be a man or woman of God? When we look at the life of Joseph, we get a picture of a righteous man who was called simply to be a faithful husband and father.

The world may call being a husband and a father ordinary, but God calls it extraordinary when we are faithful in the role He places us in.

Jesus needed a mother and a father to grow up into the man who would die on the cross for our sins. Although Joseph was a carpenter by trade, God did not call him to build anything significant. Instead, God called Joseph and Mary to build a family where God’s Son would be taken care of by a mother and a father who loved God and were devoted to each other. This is critical in the development of any child.

Before you try to mark your place in this world by fame or fortune, consider the simple and extraordinary role of being a faithful spouse and a faithful parent.

Deuteronomy 6:5-7 (NLT) reads, “And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength.  And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are away on a journey, when you are lying down and when you are getting up again.”

Dear parents, let us lead by example! What role has God called you to?

Following THE Leader with you,
