Dear Cornerstone Family,
Have you ever felt your blood pressure rising in the middle of a parent-child conflict? I know I have. The key to raising our children without raising our blood pressure is to be consistent in our love and discipline.
Consistency brings security.
Our heavenly Father is the perfect example of how to parent. In Proverbs 3:11-12 (NLT) we read, “My child, don’t reject the LORD’s discipline, and don’t be upset when He corrects you. For the LORD corrects those He loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.” We have no problems with the Lord’s love, but we are sometimes resistant to His correction.
Please understand, God’s correction is always out of love. His discipline is to promote growth in our lives for a better future. Loving parenting isn’t just allowing our kids to do whatever they want and cave in every time they are not happy with us. We have to be willing to do the right things in love that will guide our children in the way they should go.
In 1 John 4:18 (NLT) we read about God’s love saying, “Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect love.”
