Dear Cornerstone Family,
Inviting others is a vitally important work.
My Father calls me on a regular basis to voice his unhappiness and always brings the topic up when I visit him about his church. Founded in the mid-1800’s, Bethel Baptist Church in Ralph, Alabama has an amazing history. Lurlene B Wallace, the first female Governor of Alabama attended when she was younger. Additionally, there is a Historic Designation Placard on the front lawn that proclaims that Bethel sent the first missionary from Alabama to China when one of their members accompanied Ms. Lottie Moon on her first journey.
The situation today is very much different. The members tell themselves that there is an urban movement depleting their flock, or some blame the pastor and staff for lack of vision, but in general the members don’t seem alarmed that there are no youth that attend and, at last count, less than 5 children regularly attend. The average age is 70 in the regular attenders.
Without a vibrant and committed outreach effort, my Dad feels (and I am inclined to agree) that within 10 years, the doors will most likely close on Bethel Baptist church.
The continued propagation of the Gospel story must be done by His people (the Church), with His abiding presence through the Holy Spirit.
Read Ephesians 3: 9-11 and Ephesians 6:4.
The Great Commission was not given to a select few. It was given to the Church. It is every Christian’s Blessed Work for the Lord Jesus to share. An inviting church is a growing church.
See you all Sunday and remember to pray for all our active military, as well as our veterans, on Memorial Day when you plan your leisure times. All gave Some; Some gave All. Remember to thank the men and women of our military who make it possible for us to enjoy America’s freedoms.
