Dear Cornerstone Family,
Is your family known for giving grace to one another? Sometimes it is easier to give grace to someone you don’t live with than those in your own home. The Bible describes grace as God’s favor, kindness and blessing on the undeserving. When you experience God’s grace, it should change the way you relate to people. Grace is approaching someone with gentleness instead of harshness. Galatians 6:1-2 (NLT) tells us, “Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.”
Grace isn’t this unrealistic syrupy love. Grace extends kindness when others have failed and offers encouragement to get back up and try again. Grace is greater than our sin because God extends His grace knowing that we will blow it again. Grace is what saves us (Ephesians 2:8). Grace gives us victory over our sin (James 4:6). Grace gives us “eternal encouragement and good hope” (2 Thessalonians 2:16). For some of us it has been a long time since we have seen an act of grace from one human being to another. Grace gives room for others as they are working through their sin. Grace resists measuring our progress with someone else’s. Grace remembers that we are all sinners in need of God’s mercy. Grace believes the best, seeks the best, pursues the best, and gives room for others to work through their stuff.
Does your home need a little more grace today?
