Dear Cornerstone Family,
I know we have some professional worriers out there and we also have some who say they never worry about anything. The truth is most of us worry about similar stuff like: our future, our past, health, safety, finances, loss of opportunity, school, jobs, relationships, marriage, and children – just to name a few!
So what do we do with our “worry”? Pretend that we are without concern? Some people live this way. They live as if they have no responsibility to take care of themselves and others. Others pretend that they can control everything – including the universe. The truth is that we are not in control of our circumstances, but we are absolutely in control of our actions and reactions.
Psalm 37:3-4 (NASB95) tells us, “Trust in the LORD and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.” We are first called to trust God. God is God and we are not. He is all-powerful and capable and we are not. To trust God we must surrender our control to Him. Then we are called to live a lifestyle of faithfulness.
Before giving in to the weight of worry, consider if there is something that needs to be done that hasn’t been taken care of. Take a moment and make a list of things that you worry about. After you have finished, circle the things that you need to take action on. These may be areas where you need to become more responsible. Then take the entire list and hand it over to God and acknowledge that He is God and you are not.
As you pray over all of these items say, “God, I trust You to do what is best. I believe You have my best interests at heart and You will take care of all of my needs. Help me to cultivate faithfulness in my life. Amen.”
