Dear Cornerstone Family,
Everybody loves to hear good harmony, but even if you are not musically inclined, you can tell when two notes are out of tune. What does harmony look like in our relationships?
Peter gives us a list of attributes to start applying in all of our relationships. 1 Peter 3:8 (NIV) says, “Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.”
This is what harmony looks like in our everyday lives. None of us have it all together. We all stumble and make mistakes; therefore, we need our Savior and we need each other. We are His church and His family.
Some relationships like to highlight each other’s faults and therefore feel justified or superior to each other. This is not how God guides us. It is a beautiful thing when we protect each other’s weaknesses with compassion and support each other’s strengths in humility.
1 Peter 3:10-12 (NIV) says, “For, ‘Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.’”
In general, if you criticize people, they’ll criticize you. If you’re friendly to people, they’ll be friendly to you. If you’re merciful to people, they’ll be merciful to you. If you want to be happy, treat people right.
Harmony is pursuing the same goal as we fit together for one purpose.
Cornerstone’s purpose is to help people find and follow Jesus Christ. We can’t tell others about how wonderful God is if we are not walking together in harmony because no one will want to listen.
Is there a relationship that you need to get right with, for your testimony about God to be heard? Then, show humility with all love, sympathy, and compassion, and seek reconciliation today!
