Karen’s Korner
Pure Heart
2 Timothy 2:23-26 (NIV)
“Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.”
God wants us to give up our selfish desires, and to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, uniting with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart. Life is too short for foolish arguments and quarrelling. It’s not “proving our point” that is going to change people. God wants us to be kind to EVERYONE, able to help others learn, and in the process, not to hold on to hurt. God wants us to gently instruct our opponents, hoping that God will grant them repentance and lead them to the truth, escaping the devil’s bondage.
Too often we are not gentle, we hold on to the hurt our opponents have afflicted on us, and we want God to punish them. We are perfectly fine with them not repenting and being stuck in the bondage of our enemy. Look inside and see what hurt you are holding on to. Through God’s power and your gratitude for all that God has forgiven you of, release your enemies into His hands. Pray for their repentance and rebirth. As we serve God from a pure heart, God can use us to change the world.
God bless,
Karen Turley
